GE Multilin’s 169-100P-120 is a Motor Management Relay intended for the control and safeguarding of three phase motor systems. The relay extends system life and reduces downtime by detecting hazardous conditions in the system and reactively shielding those components from harm. Only a single relay is required for each motor, and the 169 can be mounted alone or in tandem with other protective relays.

The 169-100P-120 relay is relatively easy to set up, as it arrives with factory setpoints already designed for the average large motor system. These values can be further edited as users gain a better understanding of their system’s unique needs. Some of the configurable settings include ground fault setpoints, undercurrent setpoints, mechanical jam setpoints, short circuit setpoints, and unbalance setpoints. Users can specify thresholds and time intervals at which trips or alarms are activated by the system, shielding the system in the best possible way for a given system.

The relay can employ up to six RTDs (resistance temperature detectors) to assess values such as motor stator temperature, ambient air temperature, and load bearing related temperature. Desired RTD types should be specified upon order, as there is an optional platinum RTD (100 Ω). In the event that no stator RTDs are assigned to the relay for use, the 169 will not receive actual cooling times and will default to calculating them based on preset values defined by the user. Users must use wires of the same length to receive accurate readings from the resistance temperature detectors.
