Bently Nevada 3500/33 16-Channel Relay Module Core Analysis
I. Product Positioning and Functions
3500/33 is one of the core modules of the Bently Nevada 3500 series mechanical protection system. It is a full-height design and provides 16 independent programmable relay output channels. Its core functions include:
Alarm driving logic
Each relay channel supports independent programming. Multiple monitoring channels’ alarm inputs (such as warnings, dangerous states, non-OK states, etc.) can be combined through AND/OR logic to achieve complex voting logic.
It is applicable for interlock protection of parameters such as vibration, displacement, speed, etc. of rotating machinery (such as turbines, generators, compressors).
Redundancy and safety design
In a triple module redundancy (TMR) system, two 3500/33 modules need to be configured to operate in parallel, providing master/slave key signal outputs to ensure high system availability.
The SIL (Safety Integrity Level) certified version needs to limit the voltage usage and comply with the type test requirements of 61010-1.

Technical Specifications and Compatibility
Hardware Parameters
Dimensions: Full-height module, physical dimensions are 119.9 mm × 24.4 mm × 256.5 mm.
Input Signals: Supports non-isolated (0.8 V to 21.0 V) or isolated (5 V to -11 V) I/O modules, selection depends on the signal type.
Output Impedance: Buffered output impedance ≤ 504 Ω, supports long-distance signal transmission.
Software and Configuration
Configuration Tools: Requires 3500 Rack Config 3.3 or higher version, 3500 Data Acquisition Software 2.40 or higher version, and 1.40 version or higher of 3500 Data Display Software.
Programming Method: Customizes alarm logic through framework configuration software, supports flexible configuration to meet special application requirements.
System Compatibility
Can work in coordination with 3500/25 Enhanced Phase Comparator, 3500/42M Displacement/Velocity Monitor and other modules to build a complete mechanical protection system.
Supports integration with PLC and DCS systems, providing real-time status feedback and control signals.

Typical application scenarios
Rotating machinery protection
Monitor the vibration and shaft displacement of turbines and generators. When the parameters exceed the threshold, trigger the relay output, and interlock the shutdown or activate the backup system.
Example: In a gas turbine, the 3500/33 module realizes the linkage between vibration alarm and fuel valve closure.
Industrial process control
Used in factory automation, intelligent networked PLC controllers, and data acquisition systems, it provides high-reliability signal isolation and conversion.
Example: In a compressor unit in the petrochemical industry, the relay module realizes the logical control of lubricating oil pressure low alarm and motor shutdown.
Deployment in high-risk environments
In harsh environments such as offshore platforms and mines, the ATEX/North American Zone 2 certified version meets explosion-proof requirements to ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
