Description
The 3500/50 Tachometer Module is a 2-channel module that accepts input fromproximity probes or magnetic pickups (except as noted) to determine shaftrotative speed, rotor acceleration, or rotor direction, compares thesemeasurements against user-programmable alarm setpoints, and generatesalarms when these setpoints are violated. The 3500/50 Tachometer Module isprogrammed using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software and can beconfigured with four different options:
1. Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Speed Band Alarming.
2. Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Zero Speed Notification.
3. Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Rotor Acceleration Alarming.
4. Speed Monitoring, Setpoint Alarming, and Reverse Rotation Notification.
The 3500/50 can be configured to supply conditioned Keyphasor? signals to thebackplane of the 3500 rack for use by other monitors, thus eliminating the needfor a separate Keyphasor module in the rack. The 3500/50 also has a peak hold
feature that stores the highest speed, highest reverse speed, or number ofreverse rotations (depending on channel type selected) that the machine hasreached. These peak values can be reset by the user.

Typical application scenarios
Rotating machinery protection
Monitor the vibration and shaft displacement of turbines and generators. When the parameters exceed the threshold, trigger the relay output, and interlock the shutdown or activate the backup system.
Example: In a gas turbine, the 3500/33 module realizes the linkage between vibration alarm and fuel valve closure.
Industrial process control
Used in factory automation, intelligent networked PLC controllers, and data acquisition systems, it provides high-reliability signal isolation and conversion.
Example: In a compressor unit in the petrochemical industry, the relay module realizes the logical control of lubricating oil pressure low alarm and motor shutdown.
Deployment in high-risk environments
In harsh environments such as offshore platforms and mines, the ATEX/North American Zone 2 certified version meets explosion-proof requirements to ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
