Product Overview
The Trusted® Communications Interface (CI) is an intelligent module that provides a range of communication services for the Trusted Controller, minimizing communication load on the Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Processor. The user-configurable module supports multiple communication media, with up to four Communications Interfaces supported by a Trusted System.

Hardware Specifications
The module is equipped with a Motorola PowerPC Processor, with bootstrap software stored in EPROM and operational firmware in flash memory, allowing for upgrades via the Front Panel Port. The Trusted Operating System utilizes a high-speed, fault-tolerant real-time kernel that manages resources and provides a stable environment.
• Redundant Power Supply: Dual redundant +24 Vdc power feed from the chassis backplane.
• Inter-Module Communication: Communicates with the Trusted TMR Processor via the triplicated Inter-Module Bus, using a 2-out-of-3 voting mechanism for data integrity.

Communications Overview
The CI maintains an Ethernet MAC address as part of its configuration, and communication protocols are sourced from the TMR Processor’s System.INI file. Data transfer between the TMR Processor and the Communications Interfaces is managed through the Network Variable Manager.
• Data Read/Write Process: For reads, data is fetched from the local copy on the CI for quick access. Writes are sent to the TMR Processor first to maintain data consistency across all interfaces before updating the local copy.
• Online Configuration Changes: Modifications to CI parameters can be made online, causing the module to disconnect and restart communications.
