The Emerson/MOTOROLA MVME712A/AM series VMEbus single-board computer is designed to meet the needs of original equipment manufacturers, including the defense and aerospace, industrial automation, and medical imaging segments. Customers seeking application technology updates while maintaining backward compatibility with the existing VMEbus infrastructure can upgrade to the MVME712A/AM series and take advantage of enhanced performance features.
The MVME5500 is equipped with a 1 GHz processor and is highly suitable for data-intensive applications. The offers more than just better processor performance; It also provides balanced performance from the processor, memory, dual independent local buses and I/O subsystems.
The powerful Marvell system controller supports 133 MHz host bus and 133 MHz SDRAM memory bus, making it highly suitable for high-speed processors. To match the system I/O with the outstanding processor performance, the MVME5500 provides dual 64-bit, 33/66 MHz PCI buses. Each PCI bus has a PMC site that supports cards operating at 33 or 66 MHz. The Universe II VME interface and the PMCspan connector are isolated from the PMC sites on a dedicated 33 MHz PCI bus segment, so both PMC sites can operate at 66 MHz.
The MVME712A/AM also offers one Gigabit Ethernet interface, one 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface and two serial ports. All of these constitute a well-balanced high-performance subsystem that can achieve unparalleled performance.

Utilizing Motorola’s MPC60x class 32-Bit microprocessors, the peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus for the on-board peripherals, processor-memory bus to PCI bus bridge, and a VME interface, the MVME712A/AM processor modules pack optimum levels of flexibility and performance into a single VME slot.
