Detailed introduction of PROSOFT MVI56E-MCM Modbus Master/Slave Enhanced Communication Module: Overview
PROSOFT MVI56E-MCM is a communication module produced by ProSoft Technology. It is mainly used for connecting the ControlLogix processor of Rockwell Automation with devices that adopt the Modbus RTU/ASCII serial communication protocol, to achieve the communication function between Modbus master station and slave station.

Features and Advantages
Compatibility: Backward compatible with MVI56 series modules, which can be directly replaced without the need to modify the existing controller program.
Configuration Ease: Equipped with ProSoft Discovery Service, enabling easy initial IP address configuration; featuring Ethernet configuration ports, which can be configured via Ethernet ports or CIP Connect, without the need to use a super terminal anymore.
Diagnostic Function: Provides remote diagnostic functionality, allowing module configuration and testing through software tools; has a detailed diagnostic graphical user interface (GUI), utilizing the backplane bridging function of ControlLogix, enabling module configuration through the 1756 Ethernet/IP module.
Data Processing: Supports user-defined module data memory mapping with up to 10,000 16-bit registers, enabling the collection of more device data and improving operational performance.
Communication Capability: Each MVI56E port can be configured as a master or slave station; two independently configurable serial ports can operate on the same or different Modbus networks; supports Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU protocols, with Modbus RTU baud rates adjustable from 9600 to 115200bps, and Modbus TCP at 10/100Mbps Ethernet.
Special Function Support: Supports the use of MSG instructions for command control, event commands, status, etc., through message transmission (unscheduled).
Installation and Maintenance: Supports hot swapping (RIUP), allowing module removal and insertion while the system is powered on; uses a single-slot design, compatible with the ControlLogix® 1756 backplane.

Application Domains
Industrial Automation: Used to achieve reliable communication between ControlLogix controllers and various third-party devices (such as PLC systems, HMI panels, field devices, etc.) to coordinate production processes and monitor equipment status, etc.
SCADA System: In the monitoring and data acquisition system, the data from Modbus devices can be collected to achieve centralized monitoring and management of the entire system.
Energy Management: In the fields of power and energy, it is used to connect various smart meters, frequency converters, distributed energy equipment, etc., to achieve the collection and control of energy data.
