The GE Fanuc / VMIC VMIVME-7459 Single-Slot VME IDE CD-RW/Hard Drive Module is a versatile mass storage module for use with GE Fanuc Embedded Systems’ line of VME processors. The VMIVME-7459 is available in a variety of configurations that include writable compact disc and up to 80GB hard disk storage. The assembly will support one compact disc drive and one hard disk drive for connection to a single IDE interface. The CD-RW drive option is compatible with Photo CD, CD-I, Video CD, Enhanced CD, CD PLUS, CD-ROM-XA, CD-DA and CD-RW. Disc-At-Once, Track-At-Once, Multisession and Incremental Packet Writing formats are supported.

The CD-ROM drive option supports multisession discs and is compatible with Photo CD, CD-I, Video CD, Enhanced CD and CD PLUS. The DVD-ROM option allows users to have the best and most versatile option provided on the VMIVME-7459. The DVD-ROM allows users to read DVD-ROM, DVD-R and DVD-RW media as well as providing the user with CD-RW capabilities and standard CD-ROM capability.

An IDE hard disk is optional. Jumpers are provided to configure either device as IDE master or slave. This permits the VMIVME-7459 flexibility in applications as it may be used as a CD-only module or a hard disk-only module in conjunction with other GE Fanuc storage modules. The fully populated VMIVME-7459 may be used with a floppy disk-only VMIVME-7452 module, for example.

The VMIVME-7459 establishes connection to the single board computer (SBC) IDE interface through the VME P2 user-defined pins. The type of SBC module and physical arrangement of the VME chassis determine the optional cable requirement. For a typical application with a single slot SBC, the VMIVME-7459 is physically placed adjacent to the SBC. Connection between boards is with a two-slot VMXC-2 cable assembly, or to accommodate a floppy disk module, with a three-slot VMXC-3 cable assembly. For application with a double slot GE Fanuc SBC or installations where the VMIVME-7459 is not placed adjacent to the SBC, the 14-inch VMXC-H cable assembly is recommended.
