The XVME-400 and XVME-401 four-channel serial I/O modules are single high, single width VMEbus modules that provide four serial communication channels for VMEbus systems. The only difference between the XVME-400 and XVME-401 is their communication interfaces: the XVME-400 offers four RS-232C serial ports, while the XVME-401 provides four RS-422A/RS-485 serial ports. Both modules incorporate two Z8530 serial communication controller (SCC) chips, offering a variety of communication modes, including asynchronous, byte synchronous, and bit-oriented protocols. Each channel can be independently programmed and has its own baud rate generator and modem signal control. The VMEbus interface directly maps the Z8530 SCC chips to the short I/O address space, starting from a 1k byte boundary selected by jumpers. The modules can also be jumpered to generate interrupts at any of the seven VMEbus interrupt levels. The two Z8530 SCC chips can produce a total of 16 different interrupt vectors. For applications where I/O cannot be brought out from the front panel, the XVME-490 and XVME-491 offer the same functionality as the XVME-400 and XVME-401. In the 6U form factor, I/O is routed through the VMEbus P2 connector on the back of the circuit board.
