I. Product Positioning
GE Multilin (now under GE Vernova) dedicated power serial port to Ethernet communication gateway / protocol converter
Core function: Converts RS485 Modbus RTU protocol into Modbus TCP/IP Ethernet protocol, specifically adapted for GE’s entire series of power relay protection devices (IED), used for SCADA monitoring network in substations and distribution systems; suffix FE = Fiber Ethernet, integrates electrical port + dual Ethernet interfaces over optical fiber, a specialized industrial-grade communication module for the power industry in strong electromagnetic environments.

Core Communication Interface Configuration
Downstream side (connected to the on-site protection device)
Isolated RS485 2-wire half-duplex bus, with a single bus capable of mounting up to 32 GE relay protection IEDs (such as 750, 369, F650, PQM power quality meters, etc., all models of Multilin power relays)
Upstream Ethernet dual interfaces (either one can be used)
10Base-T: RJ45 copper cable Ethernet (ordinary network cable networking)
10Base-F: multimode fiber interface (ST connector, 820nm), ultra-long distance transmission, resistant to strong electromagnetic interference, preferred for high-voltage cabinets in substations
Status indicator lights: power, RS485 bus, link, fault, fiber channel status LED, for on-site intuitive troubleshooting

Four. Core Functional Features
Concurrent Access from Multiple Master Stations
Modbus TCP supports multiple SCADA upper computers and HMI simultaneously reading all relay protection device data from the entire system. This function cannot be achieved with traditional RS485 serial ports.
Advantage of Fiber Isolation
The fiber link is completely electrically isolated, completely eliminating the ground potential difference in high-voltage substations and lightning surge damage to the background industrial control equipment.
Preferred choice for upgrading old systems
A large number of GE relay protections in the early years only had RS485 serial ports and no network ports. This module makes it convenient to upgrade to Ethernet monitoring without replacing the entire protection device.
Industrial Reinforced Design
Different from ordinary commercial serial port servers, specially designed for harsh working conditions in power grids and power plants, with strong seismic, wide temperature, and lightning resistance performance
