I. Basic Information
Brand: Hinds Instruments (a globally renowned polarization optical equipment manufacturer from the United States)
Model: DPEM-460A
Product Type: Dual Photoelastic Modulator
Core Application: High-precision polarization spectroscopy measurement, circular dichroism (CD), linear dichroism (LD), elliptical polarization measurement, optical rotation detection, optical remote sensing, material polarization characteristic analysis, semiconductor film detection
Core Principle
The DPEM series adopts a dual photoelastic modulation structure, with two orthogonal photoelastic modulators (PEM) built-in. It is driven by high-frequency piezoelectric to periodically change the optical phase delay, enabling high-speed modulation of the incident polarized light. Combined with a lock-in amplifier, it can achieve ultra-high signal-to-noise ratio detection of weak polarized signals. It is a core polarization modulation device for laboratories and precision optical detection fields.

Key Optical and Electrical Parameters
Working Center Wavelength: 460nm (visible light blue light band), compatible with the optical path of UV-Visible spectrometers
Modulation Frequency: The typical working frequency of standard PEM is approximately 50kHz. It performs dual-channel orthogonal synchronous modulation.
Aperture Specification: Standard optical aperture, compatible with conventional optical fibers, collimation optical paths, and incident light beams of spectrometers
Drive Method: Equipped with Hinds’ dedicated PEM drive power supply, providing high-frequency and high-voltage drive signals
Polarization Modulation Accuracy: High phase delay accuracy, capable of collecting weak polarized signals with extremely low noise
Installation Method: Standard optical adjustment frame installation, with threaded interfaces compatible with optical platforms and spectrometer optical paths
Environmental Parameters
Operating Temperature: 15℃ – 35℃ (optimal in a laboratory constant temperature environment)
Storage Temperature: -10℃ – +60℃
Anti-Vibration: Needs to be fixed on a shock-resistant optical platform for use
Core Functional Features
Dual PEM Orthogonal Modulation Design
Compared to a single-channel PEM, it can simultaneously analyze circularly polarized and linearly polarized signals. One measurement can obtain multiple-dimensional optical parameters such as CD, LD, extinction ratio, and polarization azimuth angle, significantly improving detection efficiency.
Ultra-High Signal-to-Noise Ratio
The modulation frequency is far from the environmental industrial frequency noise, capable of detecting nanowatt-level weak polarized light signals, suitable for testing of weak optical rotation samples such as biological macromolecules, films, and magnetic materials.
Narrow Bandwidth Precise Adaptation
DPEM-460A is optimized for a wavelength of 460nm, with the optimal phase delay linearity, suitable for characterizing the polarization characteristics of materials in the blue light band.
Can be integrated with commercial spectrometers
Can be directly integrated into circular dichroism spectrometers, elliptical polarization spectrometers, fluorescence polarization spectrometers, and optical remote sensing detection systems.
