I. Basic Classification
Brand: Triconex (formerly Invensys, now part of Schneider Electric)
Compatible Systems: Trident / Tri-GP Series SIS Safety Instrumented System (ESD/ETS Emergency Shutdown System)
Module Type: External Communication Interface Module, TMR Tri-Module Redundancy Architecture, SIL3 Safety Level (IEC 61508)
Full Order Part Number: CM2201 / 7400206-100
Hardware Interfaces and Electrical Parameters
1. Interface Configuration
2 Independent 10/100Mbps RJ45 Ethernet Ports
Multiple DB9 Serial Ports: Support RS232 / RS485 Electrical Standards
Backplane High-Speed TMR Bus: Interact with the internal safety data with the three redundant main control processors
All communication channels are electrically isolated (2500Vrms Isolation Voltage Rating), isolating ground loops, surge interference
2. Power Supply and Environment
Power Supply: Powered by the redundant 24VDC of the SIS Rack Backplane, no need for an external power supply
Typical Power Consumption: Approximately 5~15W
Operating Temperature: -40℃ ~ +70℃, suitable for power plant turbine rooms, petrochemical high-temperature control cabinets
Humidity: 5%–95% without condensation; Protection Grade IP20 (installed in the cabinet)
Support Online Hot Swap: Can directly replace faulty modules during operation without interrupting the SIS Safety Interlock Logic, no need for unit shutdown
Processor: MPC860 32-bit Industrial Processor, onboard Flash/SRAM for storing communication configuration and SOE Events

Supported Communication Protocols
Ethernet Side
Modbus TCP (Master / Slave): Connect to DCS, AB ControlLogix PLC, upper-level SCADA, historical station
Peer-to-Peer (Triconex Private Protocol): Interlock data exchange between multiple SIS controllers
SNTP Network Time Synchronization: Uniformize the clocks of all station equipment, ensuring millisecond-level SOE event sequence recording
TriStation Engineer Online Debugging, Program Upload / Download
Serial Port Side
Modbus RTU Master / Slave: Connect to Woodward Speed Governor, Bently 3500 Vibration Monitoring, various on-site intelligent instruments
Data Capability: Can upload trip events, interlock status, analog measurement points, support millisecond-level timestamp event recording, used for fault post-event traceability analysis
Core Functions
Safety External Data Interchange Gateway
The safety data after three-vote internal SIS is forwarded to the external system through CM2201; at the same time, it receives the start-up permission, reset, etc. instructions issued by the DCS/PLC.
Three-Redundant Communication Voting
The three independent communication channels inside the module operate in parallel for transmission and reception, with a three-out-of-two voting mechanism. A single communication channel failure does not affect the overall communication, avoiding single-point failure causing loss of safety signals.
Comprehensive Self-Diagnosis
Real-time monitoring of network interfaces / serial port links, communication timeouts, module hardware failures, and anomalies are immediately alarmed in the SIS system.
SOE Event Upload
Trip, interlock actions, equipment failures with precise timestamps are uploaded, facilitating accident analysis.

Combined with Your Previous Equipment’s On-site Interconnection Application
Connect to Woodward 8200-1312 (505XT Turbine Governor) CM2201 reads the turbine speed and valve position via Modbus-RTU. The SIS makes an overspeed judgment and outputs an ETS trip command when the limit is exceeded.
Connects to the Bently 3500 vibration monitoring system
Collects shaft vibration / shaft displacement data. When vibration exceeds the limit, the SIS triggers an interlock shutdown, and an alarm is uploaded.
Connects to the Alstom MVAJ105RA0802A trip relay
The SIS issues a hard contact trip signal to drive the MVAJ outlet circuit breaker, and CM2201 synchronously uploads the trip event to the upper-level system.
Connects to AB ControlLogix + MVI56E-61850C
The SIS data is first sent to the ControlLogix PLC, and then converted into IEC61850 protocol through MVI56E-61850C, and connected to the intelligent substation monitoring network.
Auxiliary machine statuses such as hydrogen dew point (MTS6-3-2-2-0) and soft start (80190-440-03-R) can also be uploaded to the DCS/SCADA via this module.
