Product Description

ABB RED670, Order code 1MRK002810-AC, is a transmission line differential protection IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) of Relion 670 series. It is designed for phase-segregated current differential protection of overhead lines and power cables, supporting multi-terminal differential schemes up to 5 line terminals. It offers high sensitivity for high-resistance internal faults while maintaining stability during external through faults. It integrates backup protections including distance protection, overcurrent protection, breaker failure protection, power swing detection and out-of-step protection. It adopts dual redundant C37.94 optical fiber channels for line differential communication. Native IEC61850 (GOOSE/SMV) is supported, together with IEC 60870-5-103, DNP3. PCM600 is the configuration tool. It supports single-pole / three-pole tripping, fault disturbance recording and sequence of events (SOE). Widely deployed in digital substations for power grid retrofit and spare replacement, compliant with IEC and ANSI power standards.

Product Application

It is used for HV/EHV overhead transmission lines and underground power cables, suitable for two-terminal and multi-terminal T-connected transmission circuits. As main protection, it trips rapidly for internal line faults and detects high-impedance earth faults with high sensitivity. Integrated backup protection handles short-circuit abnormal conditions, while fault recording & event log support post-fault analysis. It is widely used in new digital substation projects, conventional substation smart retrofits, power plant outgoing feeders and regional power grids, serving as replacement spare for line protection relays.
