Product Description
ABB RET630 is a transformer protection and control IED in ABB Relion® 630 series. It delivers integrated protection, control, measurement and supervision for two-winding power transformers, step-up transformers and generator-transformer units, also serving as transformer bay controller. It incorporates transformer biased differential protection, thermal overload protection, restricted earth fault protection, voltage protection, hot spot temperature and aging rate monitoring. Optional AVR automatic voltage regulation for on-load tap-changer is available. It natively supports IEC 61850 including GOOSE messaging, IEC 60870-5-103 and DNP3 over TCP/IP, with COMTRADE disturbance recording. Modular hardware offers flexible configuration with built-in local HMI. This model was discontinued by ABB since 2024 and is widely used as spare part for substation automation transformer bay maintenance.

Product Application
It is deployed for main transformers, station service transformers and generator-transformer blocks in power plants, utility substations and industrial captive power stations. It acquires real-time voltage, current and temperature signals, trips rapidly to isolate transformers in case of internal short circuit, overload or earth faults. It implements remote measurement, status indication and remote control, connecting to substation SCADA and automation system for remote transformer monitoring, event reporting and fault waveform analysis. Widely used for transformer protection retrofit and spare replacement in power transmission & distribution, metallurgy, chemical and cement captive power plants.
