ABB SYN5302A (Part No. 3BHB006716R0277) is a redundant dual-channel automatic synchronizing unit from the SYNCHROTACT 5 series, dedicated for generator synchronizing control. It incorporates two independent parallel measurement and calculation channels for hardware redundancy. It continuously measures voltage, frequency and phase difference between the generator and grid, automatically adjusts generator speed and voltage, and outputs closing command when predefined synchronizing conditions are met to achieve safe generator paralleling. It integrates synchrocheck, self-diagnosis, waveform recording and event logging, supports switching between 7 parameter sets, and is SIL2 certified. It controls generator grid connection and suppresses inrush current to protect generators and power grid assets.

Application
It is applied for automatic generator synchronizing in thermal, hydro and gas power plants. The unit compares voltage, frequency and phase between generator and grid, performs automatic speed and voltage regulation, and sends circuit breaker closing command once synchronizing conditions are satisfied. It also executes synchrocheck interlock protection to prevent dangerous non-synchronous closing which may damage generators and transformers. It supports multiple generators and multiple paralleling points, commonly integrated with power plant DCS, generator protection and excitation control systems. It is the core control & protection equipment for generator grid paralleling.
