ABB URAX-E1 Safety AS-i Slave Module
I. Basic Product Information
Brand Ownership: ABB Jokab Safety (Jokab Safety, ABB industrial safety product line)
Official Order Number: 2TLA020072R0600
Product Type: AS-i Safety Input Slave Module
Core Purpose: Specifically designed to interface with dual-hand operation buttons (dual-hand control device), compliant with EN 574 Type IIIC dual-hand safety control standards, used for safety dual-hand start/stop protection of equipment such as presses, stamping machines, injection molding machines, etc.
Model & Function Positioning
URAX is part of ABB’s AS-i safety adapter series. Different suffixes correspond to different safety components:
URAX-A1: Dynamic Sensor
URAX-C1: Dual-channel Structural Safety Switch
URAX-D1: Safety Light Curtain OSSD Signal
URAX-E1: Specialized Safety Adapter for Dual-Hand Control
Safety Level Parameters
Safety Category: Cat.4 (ISO 13849-1)
Performance Level: PL e (one of the highest safety levels)
Bus: AS-Interface (AS-i Safety at Work) safety bus, capable of connecting to Pluto safety PLC system
Can achieve synchronous pressing detection of dual-hand buttons: If the time difference between the two hands pressing exceeds the limit, the equipment will refuse to start, preventing mechanical injury caused by single-hand violation operation

Hardware Structure & Interfaces
Two M12 circular interfaces (Channel 1, Channel 3)
Connected to the left and right dual-hand buttons respectively; each channel comes with a NO normally open / NC normally closed contact terminal.
Panel indicator lights
AS-i Fault: AS-i bus communication failure alarm
COn: Safety circuit conduction status indicator
ADDR Address Knob: Set the AS-i slave station address of this AS-i
The enclosure is the classic yellow of industrial safety modules, IP65 protection, can be directly installed at the equipment site, dust-proof, waterproof, and resistant to oil and dirt
Working Principle
Two dual-hand operation buttons are connected to the two input ports of URAX-E1;
The module continuously detects the pressing sequence of the two sides of the buttons, and only when they are pressed synchronously within an extremely short period of time will the safety output be conducted;
The safety signal is transmitted through the AS-i safety bus to the safety PLC (ABB Pluto), controlled by the PLC to enable the main circuit of the equipment;
If a single button is stuck, a single-side circuit is disconnected, or the buttons are not pressed synchronously, the module immediately cuts off the safety circuit, prohibiting the equipment from operating.
Application Scenarios
Stamping machines, hydraulic presses, bending machines
Safety start for injection molding machine mold closing
Automatic assembly press equipment, mechanical hand safety start control
Workstations that must require the operator to remove both hands from the dangerous area before operation can be carried out
